Three Part Harmony
Yeah, so last Friday I mentioned the Bee Gees documentary How Can You Mend A Broken Heart on HBO and it got all kinds of responses, including some folks I hadn’t heard from since I started shooting my mouth off with these Friday emails.
So it happens that Friday Barry Gibb, the oldest and last surviving Bee Gee, released a new album called Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook Vol. 1.
Turns out Barry is a lifelong country music fan. For this album, he teamed up with some big-time country stars to do some Bee Gees tunes with a Nashville twang. He sings with Dolly Parton, Little Big Town, Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Buck Norman.
Hey, it’s a time of unlikely alliances, buckaroo.
I guess Greenfields was a favorite place where he and his brothers hung around when they were teenagers. Back then they wrote a song called “Butterfly.” It was a tune they loved but nobody ever heard it. It’s the last song on the new album and it’s a killer.
In an interview, Barry said emotionally for him it was a tough song to sing. But he said the crazy thing is that today if he’s in a studio or on stage his brothers are there right next to him. Three-part harmony, baby. Keep your dukes up.
