Playin' Catch
Frank Miller is a 74-year-old guy whose idea of getting away from the hubbub is a friendly game of catch in the backyard. So using the community social media app Nextdoor, his wife put up an ad saying Frank was looking for a buddy for a little back and forth with the ball and glove. As they said in the New York Times story, “In a world with its cover torn off, all Frank wanted to do was play catch.”
Son of a biscuit, people started to respond. From high schoolers to fellow old-timers. So Frank showed up at Cole Park at 3pm sporting a Texas Rangers hat and jersey and carrying his classic, made-in-Texas Nokona glove. He had two lines of people waiting to play. Everyone had a great time tossing and catching and yabba-dabba-doing and they made plans to do it again real soon.
Most of us remember playing catch with our dads in the backyard. Times you’ll never forget. You probably still have your old glove. You can’t throw that out. Too many memories. Great stuff. I tell ya, as soon as we belt COVID-19 over the left field wall we’re gonna put on an event like this. Keep your dukes up.
