Here we go again. Another squelcher alert.
Back in November, Dr. Ernest Mandel of Newton, Massachusetts started to think about building a home skating rink for his four young sons and the other kids in the neighborhood. Like everybody else, they’ve been cooped up since last March and he thought it was a safe way for everyone to enjoy the outdoors. So the doc and his neighbors built a beauty of a skating rink. That’s a lot of work Charlie!
The doc had one problem. He parked the rink smack in the front yard. Made sense given that it was the flattest spot, right? Wrong. According to the city, it required a special permit. He got a call from City Hall and a bright orange ticket on his front door. The ticket said the doc had seven days to take down the rink or receive a fine of $300 a day. Bullwinkle! You’ve got to be goddamn kidding me.
Imagine doing that to kids during this COVID-19 winter? Jackasses. Look the other way and let the kids have some good clean fun, will ya? These politicians have mosquito brains. They eventually reached a compromise and allowed the doc to have a rinky-dink 10x20 rink in the backyard. Big whoop!
If I were Mayor of that nose-in-the-air, hifalutin town, I’d encourage home rinks for all and I’d forgive the water bills for two months, provide logs for firepits and round up food trucks to drive around like Mr. Softee trucks in the summer. It’d not only boost morale, it’d also help some local restaurants survive the winter.
C’mon, you mooks. Do something. Keep your dukes up.
