Will Somebody Please Stand Up?
Somebody said to me after John Lewis died, “Who the hell is left?”
Right now, America is lacking in truth and leadership from Democrats, Republican and Independents. John McCain is gone, Teddy Kennedy's gone. Who has the courage to stand up and speak out anymore? You tell me.
John Lewis fought and marched for freedom, equality and human rights from the age of 23 right until he died at 80. Always peacefully and nonviolently, despite being hit with bats and bricks, burned with cigarettes and kicked when he was down.
In 2018, he said, “Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not a struggle of a day, a week, a month or a year. It is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
Hey, I’ve never been afraid to get into good trouble.
Check out Barack Obama’s statement after Lewis died. John Lewis was a hell of a guy. He ain’t marchin’ anymore, which leaves a lot more work for the rest of us. Keep your dukes up. He sure did.
