Weiners
Yeah, I’ll admit it. You wake up early every morning and you say to yourself, goddamn it this COVID-19 is still hanging around. Then you shake off the cobwebs and recall the words of Heavyweight Champ Jack Dempsey, the Manassa Mauler. “To win a fight, you’ve gotta get up when you can’t.”
Hey, this is the 32nd Friday email so I’m going to keep fighting. Speaking of boxing, supermodel Ashley Graham boxes at the legendary Gleason’s Gym. She says working out like this has been crucial for her during this pandemic. “We all need to release tension somewhere.”
Hey, couple updates on some old favorites. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles are back on the road again after being parked at the beginning of COVID-19. They made their debut during the Great Depression when the country was reeling. The original idea was to bring surprise and joy to the people of Chicago. People always smile when they see a giant hot dog on wheels.
The most sought-after novelty item is the Weiner Whistle. I ordered two and they should be here today. So if you see a guy walking around playing a hot dog whistle, that’s me baby. So that’s great the Wienermobile is back on the road spreading fun when it’s in short supply today.
The other classic is the Hess Toy Truck. It’s out for the holidays. This year it’s an ambulance and a rescue truck. Leon Hess, the company founder, developed the idea for kids of all ages back in the 60s. He wanted a truck made with outstanding craftsmanship and the innovative use of electronics and at a good price with batteries included. Who the hell does that anymore? I just got the new one the other day to add to the office clutter and I’ve been collecting the rigs for years.
I gotta say the Wienermobile and The Hess Toy Truck are two of the greatest branding ideas of all time. Keep your dukes up.
