Round 4
Hey, nothing wrong with routines, right? I’m the king of routines. I wear a striped tie, white button-down, jeans, and navy blazer to work every day. Have for years. I even wore that get-up when I was alone here at the start of the pandemic. I’ve been carrying a lucky marble in my pocket ever since I was a kid. And, Jim Bob Johnson, I’ve stuck with the same COVID vax routine through all four shots.
They say routines can be helpful in times of uncertainty and stress. I buy that, Ringo. All my shots have been at CVS Agawam. I get the shot and head right down the street to Murphy’s Pub. My son Joe has been with me every time. He says he’s worried I might take a dive. Who’s that tomato picker kidding? He just wants to go to Murphy’s.
On the first three trips, it was the same rundown—fried pickles, a Reuben, two pints of Guinness, and a brownie sundae—and I’ve had zero side effects. No reaction. This past run was the only time I felt a little wobbly the next day. Then I remembered. We had the pickles, Guinness, and Reuben, but we skipped the mambo brownie sundae. Big mistake, Charlie.
Next time you’re in Agawam, stop by Murphy’s. It’s a neighborhood hangout with great food and staff. And If I need another booster down the road, I’ll grab Joe and you know where we’ll be. And we won’t forget the goddamn brownie sundae.
Keep your dukes up.
