Play Ball

I read a good piece the other day by former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent. He was reflecting on how baseball has helped us in tough times.

Ten days after 9/11, the Mets took the field against the Braves at Shea Stadium. When Mike Piazza corked a two-run homer for a Mets win, the capacity crowd that had been silent in sadness for so long finally got a chance to erupt with joy. Piazza hit the homer off Queens native Steve Karsayand, and even he was thrilled with the crowd’s reaction.

With everything going on today, maybe the national pastime can help pull us through again. Hey, I watched the entire Sox /Yankees series at Yankee Stadium. I probably haven’t done that since I was a kid collecting Topps baseball cards. I gotta say Ray, it was a relaxing escape. I plan on getting down to Yankee Stadium this summer. Being in the old ballyard will really be getting away from it all.

To go a little Ramblin’ Jack, you gotta watch the CNN documentary Roadrunner about the late, great Anthony Bourdain and give a listen to what they said was one of his favorite tunes. Do it for Tony. Keep your dukes up
