Babes In Boy Land
Yeah yeah, we all know that auto repair shops and car dealerships are coming up empty trying to find mechanics. The answer is women. Right now, there ain’t a helluva lot of women in the trade, but that’s changing. Female enrollment in vocational and tech schools is on the upswing. It’s a lucrative business and the lack of mechanics is threatening the auto industry. A lot of good talent is over 60 and hitting the road soon.
Back when I was a straight-A student in high school (all six years of it) the kids who went to Holyoke Trade were referred to as “flunkies.” Not today, kiddo. Some women are scared off by the perceptions of the male driven industry, but more and more women who are mechanics today are really enjoying the job. A lot of women who are mechanics today are really enjoying the job.
We handled a recruiting campaign a few years ago trying to attract women to precision machining jobs. Now over 25% of their workforce is women. The same thing can help save the auto industry if they smarten up. Can do, Buster.
Keep your dukes up.
