Hit The High Note
It’s amazing what some people do in times of trouble. For years, a woman named Colette Hawley has made it her mission to go to Chicago senior centers and sing to residents. Mostly rock n’ roll classics.
COVID-19 has hit senior centers and assisted living/nursing homes harder than anyone, so the pandemic put a halt to Colette’s performances. Until she brought in the heavy equipment.
Colette’s idea of social distancing was to rent a cherry-picker bucket truck, a big speaker and a wireless mic and bring the music from 30 feet up.
The residents loved it. The isolation has been rough so it was a great release for them to sing and dance and clap again.
One of Colette’s biggest fans is Shark Tank entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who went to Indiana University with Colette. “Leave it to Colette to find a way when others don’t know how,” Cuban says. “She has an amazing heart.”
This is the kind of stuff that keeps us going when the times are wacko nuts.
By the way, the rims and nets are back on the playground basketball hoops. Keep your dukes up.
