Happy 4th—From Between The 2nd & 3rd Floor

Crazy times just got crazier. Headed out of the office Tuesday night, I didn’t take the stairs. I took the elevator. Dumb move, Charlie. I got stuck in the goddamn thing for an hour and a half.

But I gotta say the neighborhood pulled together. Jeff Labrecque, the Village Commons manager, brought in the fire department, the electric light department and Bay State Elevator.

Todd Calkins, the fire chief, got his guys going and my downstairs neighbor Dr. Jim Levine stuck with me all the way. He even called his wife to say he wouldn’t be home for dinner because he had to help his jackass neighbor stuck in the elevator.

My sister Mary and her husband Mike showed up and Al from Food 101 was checking in with Gainer to see if the old man was OK. My nephew Johnny from Tailgate was ready with a Snickers and a bottle of water for whenever the hell I got out.

What I really could’ve used was a Jameson.

The first person I saw when I got out of the shaft was Fire Chief Calkins. We gave each other a fist bump and laughed. As crazy as this virus is, in situations like this people pitch in. As Fauci says, “We’re all in this together”

To everybody who helped me out, thanks gang. Keep your dukes up.
