hoyt The Flag
Yeah, we’ve got some industrious folks out there putting a lot of effort into coining new expressions about their attitudes toward work. One of the new ones is Bare Minimum Mondays. This means they need to ease into the work week by doing as little as possible because returning to work can be so stressful. Ya know, they might be tired from the weekend and need to catch up on some sleep. Maybe they didn’t finish all their errands. Then once they get that stuff done, maybe they can squeeze in a little work. Another one I heard from some pipsqueak recently was, “Work is an interruption to my lifestyle.” Well, Skippy, how do you plan on maintaining that lifestyle?
These lazy lunkheads ought to read up on Dick and Rick Hoyt. Rick was born with cerebral palsy and was unable to move his limbs or speak. He had to use a computer to communicate. One of the things he communicated was a desire to be in the Boston Marathon. So Dick Hoyt pushed his son in a wheelchair through 32 of them. They had to fight hard to be accepted by the running community and tear down the roadblocks people with disabilities faced when competing in marathons. Through all of the races they were in together, Dick would say that he was the motor and Rick was the heart.
Steve Jobs said, “Success can be described in one word: persistence.” The Hoyts sure as hell had that. Rick died the other day with complications in his respiratory system. He had grit, guts, and a no-quit attitude. He never gave the bare minimum. Believe it or not, Flippo, if you wanna get anywhere in life, ya gotta work at it.
Keep your dukes up.
