The Good Die Young

Hey, this is the first time in almost five years of these Friday ditties, that I just don’t have it in me to do one. My old buddy, ad man John Garvey, lost his son and business partner James in a tragic motorcycle accident the other day. James was vice president of Garvey Communications, the family advertising business. He was a fan of these Friday ramblings. He’d shoot me text messages, share ‘em with friends, and sometimes give me a call to talk things over. James was a real talent and he had a helluva lot of gusto. That was the way he lived and that was the way he died. I’ve talked to his dad probably three times a week for a lotta years. We talk about the latest TV series, politics, the ad game, and family business. You name it. These conflabs have meant a lot to both of us, and I’ll keep it going more now to help him get through the hardest of hard times. This one really hit me. As sad as it gets. But John has a lotta grit. Life is short, kiddo. So I guess all I can say now is, ride on James, ride on. And John, ya gotta keep your dukes up.

If you know someone who’d like these ditties in their inbox every week, have ‘em shoot us an email at darbyo@darbyobrien.com and we’ll add ‘em to the list.
