Doin' Right By Lefty
One thing about my old man that always impressed me was that he and his cousin Dan O’Connell at the construction company always paid 100% of the crew’s health insurance benefits. And they had a big crew.
I also think full health coverage is a necessary benefit and have been providing it to my entire staff since I got the agency rolling. In fact, we named and branded Health New England 35 years ago and have been with them ever since. They’ve been a great provider. Accountants and financial types say, “You’re nuts. Get your staff to pay 50% of the tab and put the dough in your own pocket.” Not happening, Ralphie boy. Hopefully when I hit the sky my sons will keep the practice going.
We recently realized a key member of our crew had been overlooked. My son Joe’s Golden Retriever has been coming to the office since he was a puppy. Lefty is the office mascot and one of the most upstanding members of the team we’ve ever had. He’s even listed in the bios on our website.
Lefty is turning 8 in a few months and we needed to make sure he was covered the same as the rest of us. Going to the vet ain’t cheap, Charlie. Especially if there’s something really wrong. So we hooked him up with a full ASPCA insurance plan. The ASPCA does a lot of great animal rescue and protection work and is a good group to support.
Just so you know, the name Lefty is from the Townes Van Zandt song “Pancho and Lefty” made famous by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. Yipee-yi-yo-ki-yay. Hey, keep your dukes up.
