Gainer Takes A Dive
Somebody hit me with a cheap shot the other day.
It wasn’t about me being a leprechaun on the O’Connell float. You know, the Whiz Kid.
No, this mook said to me, “Hey, I heard you were a high school drop-out.”
“That’s bullwinkle,” I said, “I went the full six years.” (And five schools in those six years. I used to tell my dad the longer I went, the smarter I got.)
This same tomato picker also said, “I know how Gainer got his nickname.”
The guy said Gainer was called that because of the gainer dive. “Everybody knows Gainer is a world-class diver,” he said.
All I had to do was show him this video to put that rumor to rest.
Gainer may be a belly-flopper, but his five-year-old son Shane has some promise in the water. This summer, Shane has gone swimming—either in a pool or the ocean—for more than 100 straight days.
