Ding Dong

Looks like Mister Softee is on the rocky road to Dublin. With diesel at $7/gallon, ice cream $13/gallon, and a goddamn 25lb. bag of sprinkles going for sixty bucks, the high cost of operation really knocked ding-dong carts for a loop this summer.

Christ, between Vin Scully biting the dust and the ice cream trucks going silent, the sounds of summer are going, going, gone. The North American Ice Cream Association says this could be the end of the ice cream truck era. Profits are melting, Sluggo Johnson.

Hey, you never know. Nothing was more doomed than vinyl records, and now the discs. are selling like hotcakes. You can’t beat that ice cream truck tune on a warm summer night with all the kids in the neighborhood running toward it. My favorite was the Drumstick, the original sundae cone. I guess we still have water balloon fights and creamsicles, Mick.

Keep your dukes up.
