C’mon People Now
Spinning off last Friday’s riff, a client called and said, “If you’re looking for political leadership in America, watch Bobby Kennedy’s 1968 speech in Indianapolis when he announced to the crowd that Martin Luther King had been murdered.”
Across America, city riots broke out but not in Indianapolis.
This is a speech that Democrats, Republicans and Independents should watch. And the big man in the Oval Office. Maybe twice. That’s leadership, kiddo. And that’s what we need right now.
Christ, back in the 60s, Peter, Paul and Mary were singing, “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” Now we’re asking where have all the leaders gone?
But I’ve got to tell ya, after all that’s been happening all across the land, I’m hopeful. The times they are a-changin’. I see real change coming because the so-called 9/11 babies have grown up and they are peacefully protesting in big numbers everywhere, every day. And they don’t see black or white, they just see people.
We marched in the 60s but these kids are going to change things more than we ever did. It’s already happening. All I can say is we’re by your side.
Keep marchin’ and keep your dukes up.
