I'm With The Band
Hey, I gotta admit I always watch the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving morning. I’ve been a big fan of parades since I was a kid, when I was a leprechaun on the Daniel O’Connell’s Sons float in the Holyoke Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
This year, the UMass Minutemen marching band—with the baton twirlers and dancers and everything—is one of only four college bands selected to perform in the big parade. They’ll get to perform on the famous Macy’s big star logo along with all the giant balloons, Broadway stars, and colorful floats in front of millions of onlookers and TV viewers. This is really a big deal for any college band and a helluva day for UMass.
I never played in a band. The only thing I could play was a kazoo, and when I put the kazoo in a jug I called it a kazumpet. We’re talkin’ talent here. Go UMass. Happy Thanksgiving.
Keep your dukes up.
