Back In The Uniform
Yeah, I’m back in the lineup. Showed up in the office full blast on Monday, sporting my Catholic school uniform as usual. Ya know, navy blazer, striped repp tie, white button-down, and Levi’s. And hey Bucko, in the photo here you’ll notice I’m using a hiking pole, not some geezer cane.
Taking a quick rewind, it all started when I got hauled into Holyoke Hospital last month. I’d never been in an ambulance before. The only thing I flubbed was I forgot to tell the EMTs to turn on the lights and siren. I did have a police escort, though. The EMTs and the cop were really good guys. The healthcare system has got its problems, but I gotta say the care I got at Holyoke Hospital was outstanding—from the docs and nurses to the techs and therapists. And the lady who took care of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and coffee was the best. When I got out, the hospital referred me to an at-home physical therapy/nursing group called Comfort Plus Caregivers out of East Longmeadow. They’re a family-owned ,independent business and they’ve been as good as Holyoke Hospital.
I never worked from home during COVID. I held down the fort solo, Jack. So besides a few times up in Maine, the past two-week stretch was the first time I really worked remote. COVID really slam-banged the teamwork and camaraderie of office culture. People need to be around people. It’s also hammered the character and personality of great cities because nobody is showing up to work. Like the saying goes, 80% of success is showing up. I’m glad to be showing up here again.
Keep your dukes up.
