Hot Off The Press

Yeah yeah, Tadpole Sullivan, every now and then ya gotta salute a client for creative courage. Especially at a time when most advertising has gotten so homogenized, pedestrian, and dumbed down. People are playing it safe all over the place and squelching the fun.

The late great adman David Ogilvy said most people remember your ads better if they’re funny. When we picked up the Hot Table account, they said they had two things they wanted from their advertising: to make people hungry and make people laugh. This attitude has guided some of the best stuff the agency has done lately—from billboards on 91 to social media posts and digital ads.

Hot Table has expanded to 14 locations and counting around Massachusetts and Connecticut, but they're locally owned and family run. John, Kara, and Chris Devoie are a lot of fun to work with and they know what they’re doing. Everywhere they go, they’ve got big competition. Major chains like Panera, Chipotle, Chik Fil A, and Five Guys. So when you can’t outspend ‘em, you gotta outsmart ‘em.

Another reason I’m glad we picked up the account is because I’m a big fan of the Hot Table panini. You can’t beat the cheese steak, Froggy O’Toole. Ay-yi-goddamn-yi. I’ve already had a couple delivered to the house since I’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting to get back in the game.

Keep your dukes up.
